Does this shirt look okay?

This question was coming from my hubby this am, as he had a blue shirt with faint tan stripes through it and tan pants.

I said sure.

He kept fussing by the mirror.

"I don't think so."

"It looks fine," says I as I try to get an age spot to vanish on my face.

"Jennifer, what do you think?" he asked.

She pops her head around the corner and declares it a fashion disaster.

So Gary goes off to immediately change. So much for my opinion.

Same boots, $100 less

That's what went through my mind as Jennifer was holding up some ugg-looking boots at Target, for $22, versus the $140 to $160 for the ugs, at Nordies.

"They won't last as long," she sulked.

"No they won't, but we can buy 5 pairs and still be out ahead," I shot back. "Besides they look the same."

So, does this look okay?

I couldn't quite believe we were doing this, but gary and I were laying on the bed, I giving him a foot rub for a pulled tendon, and Jennifer's parading in and out of a room with different sets of outfits, asking which goes with what.

This was after about a 20 minute search for a certain top SHE JUST HAD TO HAVE. We finally found it stuffed away in our closet. So on to the next item last night. Helping her pick out an ensemble for Wed.

Grey shorts with pink top? Or how about the grey? Or the purple top? Do these shoes match?

Of course, she eventually ended up wearing something that we had recommended in the first place, but then dismissed.

At one point, the ...oddness of it all, caught up with her as well

"My friends would never believe that I'm asking my parents their opinions on my clothes," she laughed.

We won't tell if you don't.

I need a new outfit

Jennifer made this pronouncement tonight, as we headed off to the I-don't-cook-on-Fridays dinner.

So we headed over to a shop at kent station - Topaz - that caters to the 20 something or wish they were set. Women of my age appear in that shop to provide venture capital.

She did find a magenta-tan peasant blouse (wore that in the 70s) that looked good. She just HAD to have it until I asked what she planned to do on her date at the Kent ice skating rink tomorrow. Skate right? In a big poofy coat. I doubt that any of the top will show, even if you go to the snack bar. Aaand, you're paying for this since I KNOW you have the $$.

That brought her up short. The shirt went back on the rack for another day.

I think I'll wait until the weekend to buy this

That was the comment coming out Jennifer's mouth at Hollister's yesterday, just after she received $100 as a b-day present from grandma.

Now, you might think this is evidence of self restraint. Not quite. I'd already promised to take her school shopping, up to about $200, which doesn't include shoes, this weekend once I got paid. So, wheels turning here, she's hoping I'll buy the top and the sweater she was drooling over on Tuesday.

I told her no. I'll buy that sweater, she's buying that top. That set off a bout of pouting, until she realized that I wouldn't budge. Anyone else out there care to comment on school clothes shopping guidelines for a 15 year old.
