This blog will cover the collision of two cultures - parents and teen children. They don't understand us, and view us as spoilers or walking ATMs (adults with teen malcontents?) We are left wondering what happened to our cute cuddly kids of a few years back, and when they may return. If ever.

I love you mom, and yeah, my friends are jealous
My mom's day card was sweet, and Jennifer said that her friend was specifically jealous of how close we were. Close that is,until I tell her no. It was great to get the card anyway. I'll keep it as a reminder the next time I have to play bad cop.

I don't mean to hurt your feelings...but
I really want to be left alone on Mother's Day. My boss said this was rude. But he's a guy and just doesn't get it. And I really don't expect my husband to either.
But leave all the Macy's sales where they are. Don't both with Nordies. Just give me an afternoon, to myself, with a nice latte and also my paints if the muse strikes, and just leave me be. For an entire uninterrupted day.
My daughter gets this. But even she won't suggest it to her father.
"That would definitely hurt his feelings," she said.
So I'm just going to have to sneak off and celebrate my own Mother's Day at my own choosing.
Since Gary hadn't made a reservation yet for brunch, I figured we'd be eating at i Hop if I left to him, so I called down to my favorite greasy spoon in Kent, and sure enough they are open on Sunday. Done, we're going there, and then to the track (horse lover, rather than betting lover).
Happy Mother's Day everyone.

What do I really want for mother's day?
Actually to be left alone.
To be able to take my paint, my books and my french press, and go outside on the deck and not be asked "where is my black belt," or hear how messy the house is, (yes I know) or if I can play chauffeured to the daughter to the mall. Or do chores, or walk the dog.
But that's not what I said when my hubby asked me that. I said brunch and going to the races was gift enough.
At this point, my daughter launched in, and told him that HE should be able to figure out what I want.
When I told her later what I really wanted, she laughed. And kismet, the 106.9 announcer popped on and said the same thing.
"Probably a good idea you didn't tell dad that," she said after a moment. "Probably would have hurt his feelings."
Yeah, probably.

Mother's Day at the Mall
That's where we ended up, after an aborted attempt at going to the track. We went outside to try to catch the third race at Emerald Downs, and alas, it started to pour. So we headed to the mall and the Nordstrom's shoe department.
It was a good day tho. I got to sleep in, unlike, ahem, Saturday, and the fam made me breakfast and even made sure I got to church, although they wouldn't go with me, as usual.
J. refused to sign Gary's card, which said "reasons I love you" and went and got her own at Top Foods, and a bouquet of $7 tulips (shouldn't they be cheaper by now?) So all in all, very nice.
